Forkenspoon is a recipe box, meal planner, and grocery list app. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and what control you have over it. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we store your email address, a username, and — if you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook — the name and profile photo those services share with us.
Content you create. Recipes (names, descriptions, ingredients, instructions, tags, photos and videos), comments and replies, your weekly meal plan, and your grocery list.
Social information. Who you follow and who follows you, and, if you use it, your household membership (for shared meal planning with people you live with).
Device permissions. The app asks for camera, microphone, and photo library access only when you choose to add a photo or video to a recipe. It also asks for motion access to detect a shake gesture that randomly fills your Weekly Planner — this is processed entirely on your device and is never stored or sent anywhere.
What we don't do
Forkenspoon does not show ads, does not use any analytics or advertising tracking SDKs, and does not sell your data to anyone. The only third parties involved are the infrastructure providers below, and they're used strictly to run the app.
Who we share it with
We use Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, and file storage — your account and content live on Firebase's infrastructure. If you choose to sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, those providers handle that sign-in step directly and share only your name, email, and profile photo with us. Some recipe content you post publicly (a dish, a comment) is visible to other Forkenspoon users by design — that's how the social/sharing features work.
Your recipes, your call
Any recipe you mark as a Secret Recipe is only ever visible to you. Everything else you post publicly (dishes, comments) is visible to other users of the app.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time from the profile menu (Delete Account). This permanently removes your profile, your saved-dishes list, your weekly planner, and your household membership. Recipes you shared publicly remain visible to the community (so other people's meal plans and forks of your recipes aren't broken) but are re-attributed to "Deleted User" instead of your name or photo. Comments you've written are similarly anonymized rather than deleted outright, for the same reason.
Children's privacy
Forkenspoon isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections and stored on Google Firebase's infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we don't do anything unusual with your data beyond running the app's features.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
